Jubei Japanese bistro and tapas, Artarmon

Finalist: Dulux Colour Awards

Situated in the leafy restaurant precinct of Artarmon, the intimate dining setting of Jubei Japanese Bistro and Tapas became the drawcard of difference with the neighbouring Asian restaurants.

The existing Thai restaurant required a redesign of the shopfront to open its interior to patrons and for natural ventilation. FORM considered all the heritage requirements and re- instated elements from its previous incarnation. The use of natural timbers was also sympathetic to its heritage streetscape. Re- alignment of the entrance to the kitchen minimised its impact to the patrons within the dining area and with the cobalt blue entry doors immediately draw your eyes towards the restaurant. The cedar framed exterior cladding of hand painted tiles completed the entry palette.

The restaurant features long banquettes fixed to raw exposed brick. Textured wall treatments conceal amenities beyond and juxtapose the painted surfaces of the other walls.
